UX Designer Cover Letter Checklist
A great UX designer cover letter has five main elements:
1. Heading. Use a stylized template to improve the visual appeal of your cover letter. Be sure to include the following pieces of information in your heading:
- Your name, title, and contact info
- The date you sent the letter
- The addressee’s details
2. Salutation. Greet the hiring manager by Mr. or Ms. [Last Name]. If you can’t find the hiring manager’s name, use “Dear Hiring Manager” instead.
3. Introduction. You want to craft an introductory paragraph that leads with one of your most compelling professional achievements. This is your first opportunity to make a positive impression on the hiring manager. Choose an accomplishment that you can quantify with an impactful number or metric. This will ensure that potential employers see the most impressive aspects of your background at the top of the document.
4. Body paragraphs. Continue to build on your career achievements in the following paragraphs. You want to quantify your accomplishments as much as possible using monetary figures and metrics. Consider integrating a list of bullet points to help break up the text on the page. You should also mention the company’s reputation or mission statement in this paragraph and explain how it aligns with your background.
5. Closing section. Close out your cover letter using a call to action (CTA) that invites the hiring manager to schedule an interview with you or reach out for additional information.
